Platt Fields Park was formally opened in 1910. The city of Manchester purchased the estate for public park in 1908. In the next two years the park has been rebuilt, including planting banks with shrubs and trees, diverting the Gore Brook and creating a lake and island.
South Manchester Model Boat Club members meet at the lake on Sunday mornings.
